Features & Benefits
ROUTERS & SWITCHES
» VDSL2 outperforms VDSL in speed
and phone line distance from central
office (CO) switch to consumer premise
equipment (CPE) modem or router.
» Ideal for voice, video, data, high
definition television (HDTV) and
interactive gaming over the Internet.
» Maximum theoretical speed of 250Mbps
at “source”.
» Speeds of 25Mbps available to most
consumers.
» Speed of 100Mbps available on short
loops (up to 300 m phone line distance).
» Speed decreases as phone line
distance increases from 1 km.
» Easy upgrade to systems already
installed over the last decade
» Allows operators to offer “super triple
play” of video, Internet and voice
services to compete with services
offered by satellite and cable operators.
» Ideal for HDTV, VoIP and video
conferencing.
» Not limited to short loops or MTU
(Multi-Tenant Units office buildings)/
MDU (Multi-Dwelling Units apartment
buildings and condominiums)
applications; can also be used for
medium range applications.
VDSL2 (Very-High-Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line 2) is an ITU-T G.993.2 standard an
access technology that exploits the existing infrastructure of telephone copper wires
that are present in very home, office building, factory, and public premise. VDSL2 can
be deployed from the telephone company and service provider central offices, from
fiber-fed cabinets located near the customer premises, or within buildings.
VDSL2 is the newest and most advanced standard of DSL broadband wire line
communications. Designed to support the wide deployment of services such as voice,
video, data, high definition television (HDTV) and interactive gaming, VDSL2 enables
operators and carriers to gradually, flexibly, and cost efficiently upgrade existing DSL
infrastructure.
VDSL2 is an enhancement to G.993.1 VDSL that permits the transmission of
asymmetric and symmetric (full-duplex) aggregate data rates many times higher on
the twisted-pair phone wires using a bandwidth up to 30MHz.
